Amed Dive Center, dive the USAT Liberty wreck, Bali
Our Amed scuba diving center is one of the youngest from the Dive Concepts Bali family. With our years of experience in Tulamben we wanted to settle in Amed to have access to a larger number of dive sites and enjoy all that Bali’s East Coast has to offer.
No matter if you want to dive in Amed or Tulamben we arrange your pick-up for free.
Dive sites in Amed
Diverse possibilities when diving in Amed, starting from the shore or from a Jukung (traditional fishing boat), a beautiful concentration of nudibranchs, shrimps and other critters for Macro lovers, possibility of calm drift dive or even more demanding dives requiring a consistent experience. You will be able to appreciate from schools of fish (mackerel, fusiliers, trevally…) to the biggest (barracuda, reef sharks….).
At Dive Concepts Amed, we have departures for diving up to 4 times a day. The center also has a vehicle that will allow you to dive the sites of your choice. We have 15 dive sites to offer between Ghost Bay and Gili Selang Bay.
This village is reminiscent of authentic Bali, far from the southern crowd. Fishermen are leaving before sunrise and returning in the early morning with their fresh fishing gives off a family atmosphere of relaxation and well-being. The ocean landscape is purely stunning.
LIPAH BAY
Depth: 3-21m
Just behind the diving center is Lipah Bay. This is a great site for snorkelers, for discovering scuba diving or new divers wanting to develop their skills in calm, clear waters.
Advanced photographers looking for strange critters will also love this site. Look out for lionfish, moray eels, small frog-fish, leaf scorpion fish, ornate ghost pipe-fish, mimic octopus, seahorses. The reef is very healthy and colorful, it’s like a giant aquarium only a few meters away from the shore.
Pyramids
Depth: 5-20m
Dived from a Jukung (local outrigger boat), Pyramids gets its name from the artificially created reefs that the local dive community has built in that are in the shapes of pyramids. The structures attract all sorts of life like Snappers, Puffers, Ghost Pipefish, Nudibranchs and so on. Besides the artificial reef there is also the natural reef where you can spot Stingrays, Garden Eels, Harlequin Sweet lips, Ribbon Eels and much more. This site is great for a drift and if the current is not too strong then it makes for great photography as well.
Japanese Shipwreck
Depth: 5-20m
The Wreck lies in a calm bay and it sits in just 5m of water, It along with its surroundings make for an excellent muck dive with Pygmy Seahorses, Leaf Fish, Scorpion Fish and a handful of other critters. Great site for macro photography.
Bunutan
Depth: 5-30+m
10 minutes from our center lies the reef corner of Bunutan. Best dived as a drift we work out from a sandy slope to a corner with excellent fish life, especially from 20m down. Shoals of snapper and fusiliers hang out here while sharks and trevallies are often seen patrolling at the corner. After watching the show we work up the reef slope and finish in the protected shallows, where you’ll find huge barrel sponges and coral bommies adorned with gorgonian fans of many species and colors.
Deep Blue
Depth: 6-30m
Just 15 minutes from Blue Door Diving by Jukung there is a challenging drift dive along beautiful topography and healthy coral reef. You drop into a coral garden at around 5 m then the current picks you up and takes you off. Divers very often see plenty of reef fish, turtles, sharks and all sorts of big fish.
JEMELUK WALL
Depth: 1-21m
There are two dives in Jemeluk. The protected bay offers easy snorkeling, beach diving and some artificial reefs as well as a beautiful coral garden. One of the good spots to find ghost pipe-fish, bat-fish glide between the statues and you’ll find plenty of scorpion fish. Schools of big mouth mackerels patrol the area.
The wall is a dive in clear water along a steep drop off (80 m). Carried by the gentle current, divers are astonished by the abundance of fish life from macro size to bigger ones and the huge pink gorgonian fan corals.
drop off
Depth: 10-30m
The Drop off can be quite an exciting dive with Black-tip Reef Sharks, Groupers, Stingrays and other marine life. It makes for a great wall dive as well as a bit of a drift depending on the currents. There is also a chance of seeing Mantas but these are just visitors who pass by now and then.
USAT Liberty Shipwreck
Depth: 5-30m
The famous Liberty is a shipwreck for any diver level from an Open water or a Discover scuba diver to an advanced diver who has hundreds of dives logged. Snappers, Groupers, Barracuda, and occasional visits from Black tip reef sharks are some of the bigger things at the wreck, if you are interested in macro the wreck has Ghost Pipefish, Nudibranchs, Leaf fish and tons of other little critters. With great coral color and normally good visibility and light the Liberty makes for an excellent photography dive. We normally dive the Liberty first thing in the morning before the crowds arrive from Sanur and Kuta.
Coral Garden
Depth: 5-20m
The Coral Garden at Tulamben is a site that is bursting with life, yet another site that is great for photography. Scorpionfish, Ribbon Eels, colonies of anemones with their resident clown fish along with giant Bumphead Parrotfish and passing Blacktip Reef Sharks are a few of the things that you can see here. An artificial reef has also been created here which comprises a mix of various Balinese statues all of which attract a lot of life to the reef and makes for a great photo opportunity with your buddy.
Nusa Penida & Nusa Lembongan Dive Center.
Vibrant colourful reefs, teeming with life…from tiny wonders to pelagic giants!
Manta Point
The boat ride out to Manta Point is almost as exciting as the dive itself, as it offers divers incredible views of the towering sea cliffs of Nusa Penida with the sun rising behind. Close to the site we pass huge stacks rising out of the water with waves crashing at their base. It is an exposed site and we need a calm day to be able to enjoy it fully. Manta Point rarely has any current at all but is subjected to the swell. The plankton rich waters here attract the mantas all year round, sometimes seven or eight at a time, though even one is a fantastic sight. The dive site plateaus to around 18m and that is where the manta action happens. Certainly mantas are the main priority but besides them, bamboo sharks and blue spotted stingrays are regularly sighted here. There are some beautiful swim-throughs where divers may enjoy the play of light and shadow.
Manta Bay
This site was discovered by Tim at Big Fish Diving in 2010. Due to the weather conditions, we cannot get to this site every day. However it is closer and more protected than Manta Point, with the same chances of seeing these fantastic creatures. Manta bay with a stunning backdrop is rich in plankton, which attracts Manta rays year round. The dive site has a maximum depth of 12m and is visited by an occasional bamboo and nurse shark. With its gullies and swim throughs, is an interesting distraction from the manta action going on above.
Crystal Bay
The “Crystal” in Crystal Bay refers to the fantastic visibility normally experienced here, which can reach 40m+ on a good day. Crystal Bay is certainly one of the area’s most popular dive sites and is a favorite of the visiting mola (ocean sunfish) from July to October. The bay floor is covered with golden sand and is surrounded by sloping coral reefs to either side. A healthy reef, an interesting cave, huge table coral and hundreds of fish of all shapes and sizes – there is not much that this dive site cannot offer.
Ceningan Wall
This impressive coral wall begins at the foot of the sea cliffs to the North of Ceningan and drops down vertically to a depth of 180m. Currents can be strong here and once again this site is reserved for experienced divers only. The wall is colorful and fun to explore, with plenty of nudibranchs to find and sweetlips to pass if you can keep your eye off the vast depths below.
Mangrove
This site is so called due to its location, right by the mangrove area to the north east of Nusa Lembongan. Mangroves offer a healthy sloping coral reef, with often adrenaline pumping currents. Often marble rays and other larger species swim past in deeper water. Sharks are occasionally seen here too. A good site for all levels.
Toyapakeh
Toyapakeh means salt water in Balinese and is found at the north end of the deep channel. It is a diver’s favorite as you often find yourself swimming through school after school of colorful fish of all varieties, including the red tooth triggerfish, giant trevallies and batfish. Toyapakeh is a large coral covered bay dotted with bommies that will lead you to a sloping reef that drops off gently all the way to 190m! Mola sightings are possible here and even ribbon eels and frog fish are occasionally spotted by keen sighted divers.
Blue Corner
This is an exciting dive for experienced divers only. The huge expanse of current swept slopes at Blue Corner provides some dramatic topography. Here you are not inspecting the coral but watching instead for bigger fish out in the blue and the site doesn’t often disappoint. Therefore this is a great site for mola mola (ocean sunfish) during the season. Most other visitors include eagle rays, huge marble rays, wobbegong, tuna and even the occasional shark.
Gamat Bay
This small yet memorable site off Toyapakeh Strait starts as a protected bay but quickly opens to a fast-paced drift. The steep, rugged reef slope is rich in hard and soft corals, with dramatic and colorful formations stretching well beyond the recreational dive limits. Start your dive in Gamat Bay, canvassing the slope for small wildlife, peeking under the large bommies, overhangs, and small caves where small and cryptic creatures like to hide out. Then, you’ll have the option to drift along the wall in search of pelagics and vast schools of trevally, or head back into the shallows to spend your safety stop coral-gazing and critter-hunting.
