The American ship USAT Liberty wreck is Bali’s most visited dive site. The Liberty wreck was found only 30m(100 ft) off-shore. The shallowest point of the wreck is at a depth of about 5 meters(16 ft) and the deepest point sits about 28 meters(92 ft). During WWII the ship was torpedoed and beached, and in 1963 spectacularly slid into the ocean during the eruption of Mt Agung and the magma flow pressed the ship back into the sea, since then corals covered the wreckage completely and turned it into a home for many species of fish, like diagonal banded sweetlips, oriental sweetlips, ribbon sweetlips, potato groupers, barracudas, mass of fusiliers, anemones,
Night dive in the US Liberty wreck is popular. Look for sleeping fish and lots of Invertebrate, especially nudibranchs, .and flatworms.

A 15 minute ride with the traditional jukung will take us to this amazing dive site . The dive starts in a calm white sand bay, which makes this dive site special compared to the other black sand dive sites in this area. The reef is covered in nice huge elephant-ear sponges and finger reefs going into the depth. On the way to the split along the reef, we can often spot garden eels, bump head parrotfish.
The current can be expected to pick up a little bit once we reach the reef split and the turning point. This is also the most interesting part of the dive with schools of fusiliers, sergeants and often also bigger creatures like giant trevallies or eagle rays, which can be seen at the split where the current is present.
Emerald is suitable for all levels of divers and it’s definitely one of our favorite dive sites around Tulamben.
